So okay, this has been super slow in editing. But in my defense, I did quit my job, move all the way across the country and set up shop in one of the most beautiful places on earth. And yeah, I expected to have more quiet time for recording/editing since I no longer have massive street noise from every single location in my house, but instead I had half of everyone I know come visit (see: most beautiful places on earth). So it has been an awesome but completely unproductive summer and fall, but this is finally finished. And it really would not have been if it were not for
ailis_fictive, who just checked in to see when I would be posting this and got shanghaied into beta-listening and has been so super helpful and thorough and awesome, I can't even describe it.
Title: Everything That You Can Keep (Part 4)
Author:
dira
Fandom: Vorkosigan Saga
Pairings: Aral/Cordelia, Aral/Jole
Rating: Explicit
Length: 2h 55
Size: 160Mb
Temporary Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?upn7iapo42a5xq4
Summary: The impossible takes a little more time, a lot of negotiation.
Rambly Reader's Note:
I don't even really know where to start with this part. It's one of my favourite pieces of fic in existance. I just love the humanity and the vulnerability of all of the characters. And the way that even though all of them could get hurt, they are aware that they are not all equally vulnerable. Arkady just has so much to lose and it just kills me. And yeah, it makes the payoff of just how utterly happy he is to get what he wants that much better. Ugh.
And getting more of Arkady's backstory is awesome! Vorgorov has sneakily become one of my favourite characters in this series and hearing about Aral and Cordelia and Ges as some sort of dark fairy tale was just brilliant.
Also. I still have a lot of difficulty reading sex scenes. It's just challenging, that's all there is to it. I notice even more now all the readers that I listen to who really nail that element of a podfic, 'cause I usually end up doing a million takes and just feeling awkward about it. Oh well. I do enjoy how in this fic there is so much of who they are wrapped up in the sex scenes, and who they're trying to be to each other. I love how both Jole and Aral seem to enjoy the idea of a power dynamic between them, but Aral is so desperate to prove that there doesn't have to be, that if there is one, it's because they like it and not for any other reason. Ugh. Aral. Arkady. Ugh.
On a more technical note, I decided not to piece all of the different sections back together. I am still not sure this was a good idea, but in the interests of ever actually posting it, that's what I went with. And anyway, I personally prefer podfics in tiny little bites, since when I got into podfic I was mostly using a 500Mb player and almost never had any space on it.
And as always, the title music is John Darnielle covering Two-Headed Boy and getting all the words adorably wrong.
